Holy Family Catholic School has made tremendous improvements in our project based STREAM education.  We are educating the leaders of tomorrow with hands-on critical thinking.  The faculty, students and staff are committed STREAM education.  We are working with city leaders, higher education institutions, local businesses and the fine arts community of Cleveland.  At Holy Family Catholic School we believe that strong partnerships enhance student knowledge and prepare them for their future.

2023-2024 School Year

The 5th grade spent time working on Ancient Mesopotamian projects. They used different materials such as 3d printer, play dough, toothpicks, Legos, etc. as they created projects that involved agriculture, social structure, religion and government.

Jeremiah Myers from The Cleveland Museum of Art attended through Google Meets and asked the students questions about their projects. This was an integrated lesson involving social studies, art, technology with the use of the engineering design process. Students had to use these skills to figure out the challenges that Ancient Civilization faced. It made the learning process meaningful, creative and the students had fun designing these projects.

Our 4th Graders did a STREAM lab in which they learned all about water sources! Students demonstrated how water sources can become polluted (by using glitter and gravel) through trash flow and other pollution. They saw how once this in our water sources that it can affect nature and our drinking water.

Our 7th Graders did a STREAM activity where they compared planetary gases using jelly beans! The objective was for the students to compare and contrast the differences of the atmospheric gases between the “sister” planets of Venus, Earth and Mars.

This activity was adapted from a Lesson Plan found on Project LEARN and COMET Program both at UCAR.

While our 6th Graders were learning all about the rock cycle, Cleveland Metroparks Naturalists, Matt and Peter, visited to do demonstrations about the rock cycle, soil and erosion! Students played an interactive game to understand Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rock formations. Thank you for coming in!!

Jeremiah Myers from The Cleveland Museum of Art has been working with our students on the engineering design process and how art, science, engineering and social studies intersect for amazing STREAM learning opportunities.

Our First Graders did a project where they first read Jack and the Beanstalk. Next the students put magic beans in a cup with a damp paper towel. When the beans sprouted they planted them. After that the students watched their beanstalks grow as high as the Giant’s Castle in the clouds! So much fun!

2022-2023 School Year

Our Kindergarteners and First Graders worked with The Cleveland Museum of Art and Silver Apple for Project Based Learning (PBL). Throughout the school year, students created different ways to display art in the art museum. Students from Padua Franciscan High School that are part of the Padua MyTrack® Art came to help our students with the projects and taught them how to take photos in creative ways. At the end of the school year our students then presented everything they learned and the ideas that came up with.

Fall 2021

Our students and teachers did an awesome job working on their STEAM projects this Fall.  Our students worked on solving real life problems in the gardening and landscaping industry dealing with recycling, pest control and marketing/social media issues.

Thank you to our community partners: Petitti Garden Center, Cuyahoga Community College and SilverApple.

Our Kindergarten and First Grade students visited the brand new STEM lab at Tri-C West.  We are very excited to have Tri-C and Petitis Garden Centers as our STREAM partners.  As part of their plant container PBL, the students studied microorganisms that are left on plant containers after the plants are planted.
